Potpourri Stitchers: Strawberry Fayre Part 2

  • Tue, April 19, 2022
  • 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
  • TBD

Come to April’s meeting with fabric selected for stitching the heart. See detailed list for breaking this up into upcoming months (around 3 months apart) on the website in Member Resources under Potpourri handouts.

It’s not too late to start this - see past newsletters for ordering information. We will transfer outline shapes and stitching patterns for the hearts, pockets, and accessories onto cotton/linen blend using interfacing, pen, basting thread, pins and light box. Next we will tack muslin backing to cotton/linen blend pieces. This completes the directions on page 50 in Inspirations issue 95 (page 6 if you bought the pattern).

Then we will discuss whether we need one or two sessions to cover the embroidery stitching and possible thread substitutions on the front heart. You will need to bring the first two items listed below to April’s meeting. The rest of the items can be shared among the group for those who meet in person.

1. 20” x 55” natural cotton/linen blend or your substitute cut into six 10” squares and one 10” x 14” rectangle with edges secured with machine zigzag or overlock stitch or hand sewn.

2. 20” x 55” fine quilter’s muslin or your substitute cut into six 10” squares and one 10” x 14” rectangle with edges secured with machine zigzag or overlock stitch or hand sewn.

3. Permanent fine point pen for tracing pattern (black suggested for making templates, brown suggested for pattern or your substitute - color to match embroidery?)

4. Pins

5. Basting thread in a contrasting color

6. 12” x 20” piece of medium weight interfacing (or your substitute for making a temporary template)

7. Tracing paper (or make paper copies of the patterns to transfer)

8. Some way to transfer the pattern from paper to the ground fabric (light box or your substitution)

Suggestions from the group on where to find the fabric locally include S. R. Harris, quilting stores, Treadle Yard Goods.

This group meets monthly the 3rd Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to approx. 2:00 p.m.

LOCATION: This will be a hybrid meeting. This month, in-person attendees will meet at Lee Popp's home. The link for those connecting by video conference is on the Member Resources page.
